 Swim and Dive Team Overview

Any member of the Woodcrest Recreation Association in good standing, between the ages of 5 and 18 as of June 15, is invited to join the swimming or diving team. To be considered a member of the swimming and/or diving team, a swimmer must attend practice on a regular basis. The practice schedule will be set by the coach and be posted once it has been finalized.

Swimmers and divers must pay the $85 swim team fee in order to be eligible for Swim and/or Dive Team awards, gifts and parties. (A child on both teams will pay $125.)  Furthermore, swimmers cannot compete unless a "Waiver of Liability" form has been completed, signed and submitted by their parents.  Divers cannot attend practice or compete in meets until they have AAU insurance.

Note:  In the case of bad weather, please call the front desk to inquire whether or not there is practice. The number is 428-1413.

If you have any problems or questions that you are not able to address in person, or would like to become a member of the Swim Team Parent Committee, please feel free to contact the coaches or Marc Raiken.

  Parents

With the exception of the Swim Coaches, the Woodcrest Swim Team is a purely volunteer program. There are ample opportunities, within two general categories, for participation by parents. One category involves the actual running of the individual Swim Meets, while the other relates to all short and long term non-meet team activities. Each family is required to volunteer to work at meets and help out at pep rallies.

Swim Meet Assistance

There is always a need for parents willing to help stage individual meets. The meets work because parents get involved. Involvement is an easy way to participate in your child's swim experience, and is also a great way for new club members to meet other swim parents. Meet participation often offers the "best seat in the house" from which to observe your child compete.

Many positions (such as lane timers and runners) require only a willingness to participate with minimal advance training. However, some of the A-Meet officiating positions require attendance at Tri-County clinics to obtain formal training and certification. If any positions interest you, or if you have a general willingness to help on meet days, please sign up at the parent meeting held at the beginning of the season, or see a member of the Swim Team Parent Committee. Please note that if you are interested in learning about being a Stroke & Turn Official, a Starter or Referee, or a Team Record Keeper, there is a free clinic at the beginning of the season at Greenfields Swim Club. Attendance at one of these clinics is required before you can actually participate in these activities.

Non-Meet Activities

There are a number of important activities outside the scope of the Swim Meets that greatly enhance each child's swim team experience. These activities allow involvement by parents who aren't comfortable acting as meet officials and facilitators. The major activities that need committees and/or parental involvement include:
· Pizza and Ice Cream Parties associated with the   Pep Rallies
· Food and Entertainment for the Team Banquet
· Team Gifts & Trophies
· Team Communications (during the season and   off-season)
· Team Extra-Curricular Activities (bowling,   movies, etc.)
· Fund Raising
· Team Apparel (shirts, swimsuits, logos)

There are opportunities for all levels of involvement, and most of these activities are similar to Parent-Teacher or other sports organization activities. There is a sign-up sheet for anyone interested in working in any of the areas listed above. The Swim Team is always receptive to ideas that help us provide the swimmers with the best overall team experience. If you have ideas that aren't listed above, please don't be shy about voicing them.  Again, if you are interested, please see a Swim Team Parent Committee member or speak with or contact Trustee
Marc Raiken.
